Day Five: The Bible Helps Us Stand Strong

Today was the last day of camp. All of the kids wore their lime green shirts today. It is something to see 200 kids all wearing the same color. We took the camp picture today before the festivities began. We'll see how it turns out.

After camp we cleaned up to get ready for the wrap up party tonight. We successfully moved the castle from the church to the fellowship hall. Tonight we also say our goodbyes. The teens have gotten to know the kids, other teens, and helpers very well this week.

The next blog will be from the airport tomorrow at 6:30 am. Yikes! That's 5:30 in Green Bay time.

Day Four: Trust in God Helps Us Stand Strong

Four days down. After six days in Virginia, there are no longer four groups, but one. As you can see in our picture at Great Falls, we are one. One mission this week. We are all Green Bay. We are all Modesto. We are all Luther Prep. We are all Falls Church.

Everyone is falling very nicely into the routines of camp. Isaiah was on castle duty this morning. Keyundray and Jordan need to brush up on their dance moves. Katie and Erin keep a young child entertained before camp.

Day Three: Prayer Helps Us Stand Strong

This whole week is about standing strong. Every morning starts off similar for many of us - castle maintenance. The castle that we built, a fortress of cardboard and duct tape, collapses every night in the humidity. So we rebuild sections of it every morning. Today we did water games outside and everyone got a little wet. It is great to see the kids connecting with our teens.

This afternoon we are heading down to the museums on the Metro.

A Patriotic Afternoon

After filling up a few water balloons and getting set for camp tomorrow, we spent the afternoon and evening at Arlington National Cemetery and the Marine Corps Sunset Parade. Both are always very impressive.

Day Two: Family and Friends Help Us Stand Strong

The second day of camp always goes a little smoother, because everyone (should) know their way. It was a hot day at camp. The theme for the day had us all thinking of family and friends.

Each teen is assigned a group or area. Keyundray and Jordan are working with the Falcons (ages 7-8 year olds). Eric is working with the Steeds (ages 9-11 year olds). Martin is helping outside at games with me. That's three hours outside everyday. Grace and Isaiah are working with the Lions (age 5). Katie and Erin volunteered to work with the youngest group, the Jesters (ages 3-4).

Seeing the Sights

In the afternoon, we went to the swimming pool to cool off. It was fun playing basketball, playing tennis, diving, and racing.

After another great supper and a failed boom whacker attempt, we headed out to see the monuments at night. We took LOTS of pictures. Our comfortable shoes got a workout today seeing many of the monuments. Now it is off to bed, because 200+ children await tomorrow.

Day One of Camp: God's Love Enables Us To Stand Strong

A few pictures of the first day of camp before we head out to view some monuments tonight.

Getting Ready

Our day started off with Bible Study and church. We were reminded that God works through messy situations and through sinners. The story was Jacob and Esau, but it definitely applied to our work today and our work this week. We are all sinners, but God chooses to work through us to preach the saving gospel message.

After spending the afternoon decorating the church and school, we enjoyed a delicious supper and got to spend some time with our host families.

Tomorrow is the first day of camp. Who knows what these 218 registered kids will bring?
